Article: Fuel supply in the DRC guaranteed, reassures the Government
The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo recently wanted to reassure the population about the continuity of fuel supplies in the country. This announcement comes following a meeting between the Prime Minister, the Ministers of Finance and Hydrocarbons, as well as representatives of banks and oil companies.
During this meeting, it was agreed to finalize the agreements relating to the refinancing of part of the shortfall that the Government owes to oil tankers. According to the Minister of Finance, Nicolas Kazadi, these latest adjustments will make it possible to harmonize points of view and guarantee the stability of fuel supplies in the country.
Nicolas Kazadi insisted that there will be no disruption in the supply of petroleum products. This statement aims to reassure stakeholders, particularly oil companies and the public, about the correct management of the issue of payment of shortfall.
However, this meeting follows a letter from the Professional Group of Petroleum Products Distributors, in which they warned of the precarious situation of oil companies in the DRC. They even threatened to implement stock quota measures and reduce the opening hours of service stations.
Faced with this situation, the Government is committed to supporting discussions between oil companies and banks in order to settle payment arrears and allow oil companies to quickly renew their stocks.
It is important to note that this problem of fuel supply is not new in the DRC. For several months, oil companies have been facing financial difficulties, which impacts their ability to maintain sufficient stocks to meet demand.
The Government had already announced an increase in fuel prices in order to relieve the cash flow of oil companies. However, these measures did not completely solve the problem.
Thus, the finalization of agreements relating to the refinancing of the shortfall is an important step in the search for a sustainable solution to ensure a stable and regular fuel supply.
In conclusion, the Government of the DRC is mobilizing to guarantee the continuity of fuel supply in the country. Ongoing discussions between oil companies, banks and public authorities aim to resolve payment arrears and allow oil companies to renew their stocks. This situation reflects the challenges faced by economies dependent on oil resources, and highlights the importance of effective management of this strategic sector.
