“Violent clashes in Kitchanga: the M23 and the Wazalendo patriots clash, the population in danger”

Kitchanga, a locality located in the territory of Masisi, was recently the scene of violent clashes between the M23 rebels and the young patriots of Wazalendo. These fighting created panic among the local population, pushing many residents to take refuge at the Monusco base and in the town of Mweso.

According to information collected on site, the fighting began following an attempt by M23 rebels to recover the body of an officer of their group, killed by Wazalendo’s patriots. The situation was quickly brought under control by the patriotic resistance fighters, and the clashes moved away from the city of Kitchanga. Several elements of the M23 have been captured and will soon be handed over to the authorities.

These fights are part of a broader context of tensions between the M23 and the patriots of Wazalendo. For more than a week, clashes have broken out in the Bishusha grouping, located in the Rutshuru territory. The patriots of Wazalendo managed to dislodge the M23 rebels from all the positions they occupied in Masisi territory.

It is important to emphasize that the local population was greatly affected by these clashes. Fear and instability reign, forcing many residents to flee their homes to find refuge elsewhere. It is therefore essential that security measures are taken to ensure the protection of civilians and put an end to this violence.

These events reflect the many challenges that the Democratic Republic of Congo faces in terms of security and stability. It is essential that all stakeholders engage in constructive dialogue to achieve a peaceful and lasting solution to ensure the security and well-being of the Congolese population.
