“The Hululu bridge on the verge of collapse: the safety of the inhabitants of Beni-Kasindi in danger”

The bridge thrown over the Hululu River, on the Beni-Kasindi axis, continues to worry the population. According to the new Congolese civil society in the Ruwenzori sector, this structure presents a permanent risk of collapse, despite a repair carried out a month ago. In reality, the repair work has not resolved the obsolescence problem of this crucial bridge for the region.

The civil society coordinator, Meleki Mulala, is sounding the alarm. He states that the repairs carried out are limited to the addition of a few boards, not guaranteeing the solidity of the work. As the bridge is located on a national road of international importance, it supports vehicles of different weights, without any clear regulations. This situation is worrying, because at any time, the bridge could give way under the pressure of the vehicles using it.

In addition to the risks for the population and local traders, Meleki Mulala highlights the importance of the bridge for ongoing military operations in the region. He therefore calls on the government to take urgent measures to rehabilitate this essential structure.

Ruwenzori civil society also recommends government intervention for the reconstruction of another bridge, that of Lume, which collapsed more than a year ago. These two structures represent major challenges for the economic development and security of the Beni-Butembo and Lubero region.

The situation at the Hululu Bridge has been a source of concern for a month now. Civil society has already warned on several occasions about the potential dangers linked to his condition. It is high time that the government takes the necessary measures to ensure the safety of populations and the smooth functioning of economic activities.

In conclusion, the degradation of the bridge over the Hululu River constitutes a real problem for the Beni-Kasindi region. The repairs carried out so far are not sufficient to guarantee its long-term solidity. It is essential that the government intervenes quickly to rehabilitate this vital structure and prevent any risk of collapse. The safety of residents and the proper functioning of economic activities depend on it.
