Mali is once again at the heart of the news with the recent clashes between the Malian army and the CSP rebels. Since October 7, the situation has been relatively calm, but it seems that the pause observed is coming to an end.
Indeed, the Fama-Wagner convoy, which had been stationed in Anefis since last Saturday, started moving again this morning of October 13. The Malian army also transported Malian soldiers and Russian auxiliaries from the Wagner group to Tessalit by air.
This resumption of hostilities is explained in particular by the fact that Minusma, which must leave its Tessalit base in the coming days, is at the heart of tensions between the Malian army and the CSP rebels. Indeed, Tessalit is in an area controlled by the CSP, but Malian soldiers have been present there since 2013, alongside the French army.
The Fama even recovered the camp left by the French force Barkhane in November 2021, without opposition from the armed groups signatories to the 2015 peace agreement. This complex situation creates tensions between Minusma, Malian soldiers and the CSP rebels. .
Despite this, everyone remains in their respective camp for the moment. However, the Malian military convoy started moving again, approaching Techanaght, about fifteen kilometers north of Anefis. The CSP rebels announce imminent fighting and claim to surround the convoy.
Alongside these clashes, a convoy of vehicles was attacked in Konna, in central Mali. This attack targeted private trucks transporting equipment as part of the disengagement of Minusma from its Douentza camp. For the moment, no results or claims have been reported.
The situation in Mali therefore remains tense, with new fighting looming on the horizon. It remains to be seen what consequences these clashes will have on the security and stability of the country. The international community continues to closely monitor developments and support peace efforts in Mali.
