Schooling of girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo: a major issue for female empowerment
Girls’ education is a crucial subject that has evolved in recent years in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In the past, young girls were often confined to marriage and household chores, but thanks to access to education, they now have the opportunity to flourish, fight against poverty and fully integrate into society. the society.
According to Rose Kibolo Maboko, inspector of the Kintambo secondary pool, schooling has allowed young Congolese girls to find their place and be able to work for their emancipation. She emphasizes that schooling has made it possible to considerably reduce inequalities in access to education between girls and boys. Indeed, thanks to free primary education, launched by the President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi, all girls now have the opportunity to go to school.
However, there are still challenges to overcome to improve the education of girls in the DRC. First of all, it is essential to strengthen primary education which constitutes the basis of all subsequent schooling. Then, it is essential to raise parents’ awareness of the importance of education for their daughters and to promote equal access to education between boys and girls from an early age.
It is not enough just to improve girls’ education, it is also necessary to provide them with employment opportunities and support them in their professional journey. It is crucial to combat inequalities in the representation of women in positions of responsibility, whether in government or in other sectors of society.
The International Day of the Girl, celebrated on October 11, highlights the rights, resilience and empowerment of girls. This is an opportunity to recall the importance of education for girls, which contributes to establishing egalitarian relations between women and men and to promoting their active participation in development and social change.
In conclusion, the schooling of girls in the DRC has made significant progress, but there still remain challenges to ensure real equality of access to education and promote the empowerment of girls. It is essential to continue to raise awareness among parents, strengthen primary education and support girls in their educational and professional careers. This is how we can truly promote gender equality and build a better future for all Congolese girls.
