Democratic transition in Gabon: the Prime Minister’s call for proposals
Gabon is currently in a period of political transition, following the installation of Prime Minister Raymond Ndong Sima by the junta. With the aim of promoting democracy and inclusion, the Prime Minister officially launched a call for proposals to the entire Gabonese population.
This call aims to collect ideas and suggestions from Gabonese people to guide the debates which will take place during the national dialogue scheduled between April and May. This is an opportunity for citizens to actively participate in building the country’s future.
With this in mind, several associations grouped within the Civil Society Consortium for Electoral Transparency in Gabon (Coted) have mobilized to develop their own roadmap. These organizations have started a consultation in order to formulate concrete and relevant proposals for the national dialogue.
Among the proposals put forward, the question of the duration of the transition and the eligibility of the president of the Transition are giving rise to lively debate. Some believe that it is up to the Gabonese people to decide the duration of the transition, while others emphasize the importance of letting the voice of the people guide this decision.
Other topics are also addressed in the proposals, such as access to medical care. The participants in the consultation underline the urgency of guaranteeing better access to health services for the Gabonese, by ensuring in particular the equipment of doctors and the availability of medicines in hospitals.
The process of collecting proposals is open to all movements and political parties until November 30. The suggestions submitted will then be debated during the national dialogue, thus allowing different points of view to be taken into account and a search for consensual solutions for the future of Gabon.
This initiative, which highlights citizen participation and participatory democracy, constitutes a significant step forward in the democratic transition process in Gabon. It offers Gabonese people the opportunity to actively contribute to the construction of their country and to make their voice heard in the political decisions that concern them.
The national dialogue announced between April and May represents a major opportunity to strengthen unity and cohesion within Gabonese society, by promoting dialogue and consultation between the different stakeholders. The active participation of civil society and citizens in this process is essential to guarantee a successful and sustainable democratic transition in Gabon.
