Haut-Katanga was in turmoil this Sunday, October 1, 2023, while the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, accompanied by the First Lady, was visiting the region to inaugurate several works. The visit drew widespread praise, including from national MP Anaclet Kabeya Kalenga, who praised the far-reaching achievements in the province, particularly in his electoral constituency of Sakania.
MP Kabeya highlighted the importance of these achievements, such as the construction of a gigantic Customs building in Kasumbalesa, financed by the DGDA, which will facilitate cross-border trade by putting an end to traffic jams. There was also mention of the creation of a corridor for small cross-border traders in Kasumbalesa, which will have a significant impact on the local economy. In the rural commune of Sakania, the MP highlighted the construction of a dry port which will offer new employment opportunities for young people in the region. He also reported on ongoing works on National Road Number 1, in the Kasumbalesa-Mokambo-Sakania section, aimed at improving road infrastructure in the region.
“We congratulate President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi for the great achievements in our province of Haut-Katanga. We are the beneficiaries of several gigantic infrastructures under his mandate. We particularly highlight the new customs building in Kasumbalesa and LUKANGABA, the corridor of small cross-border traders in Kasumbalesa, the Kasumbalesa-Mokambo-Sakania road, as well as other works which will be inaugurated”, declared Anaclet Kabeya, national deputy.
This presidential visit demonstrates the commitment of the Head of State to the development and modernization of infrastructure in the province of Haut-Katanga. These achievements will have a positive impact on the local economy and improve the living conditions of residents in the region.
