The Governor of Kongo Central province, Guy Bandu, recently appealed to companies established in his jurisdiction to quickly implement their specifications within the framework of corporate social responsibility (CSR). This initiative aims to improve the living conditions of the local population who, despite the presence of numerous businesses, remain faced with precariousness.
Governor Guy Bandu is therefore determined to change the situation and ensure that businesses truly contribute to the development of the province. Indeed, Congolese legislation requires that any company operating in the country carry out environmental and social impact studies and commit to the communities in which it operates.
In the mining sector in particular, the Mining Code provides for the establishment of social responsibility specifications to compensate for the lack of involvement of mining companies in community development.
Governor Guy Bandu therefore asked all companies to submit their legal and voluntary commitments in favor of the population. A meeting was held with officials of private, state and parastatal companies operating in sectors such as cement, oil, agricultural processing and construction.
The objective is to put in place concrete and operational solutions. Companies were given 10 days to present their social commitments. Control missions will also be sent to the field to verify compliance between companies’ actions and their commitments.
The Kongo Central Provincial Executive intends to support stakeholders in the definition and implementation of these resolutions, while ensuring the interests of the beneficiaries to guarantee the improvement of their living conditions. Particular attention will also be paid to environmental protection in order to minimize the negative impacts of business activities.
This initiative will allow the populations and communities of Kongo Central to fully benefit from the resources present in the province and will contribute to creating a win-win relationship between businesses, the population and the provincial authority.
In conclusion, Governor Guy Bandu is putting in place measures to encourage companies to assume their social responsibility in the Kongo Central province. This is an important step to improve the living conditions of residents and promote balanced and sustainable economic development.
