Burna Boy, Afropop sensation and one of Nigeria’s most popular stars, was set to fill Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium this Saturday evening. However, fans were disappointed to learn that the concert was canceled at the last minute due to a ticket scam and embezzlement case.
The organizers of the concert, two partners in a South African company, accused each other of mismanagement and various crimes, leading to the cancellation of the event. However, Burna Boy was to begin his international tour with his new album I Told Them, and filling the 90,000 seats at FNB Stadium would have been an incredible feat for the musician.
A year ago, Burna Boy had already given a memorable concert in front of his audience in Johannesburg. He was therefore eagerly awaited for this new event, especially since his last album received an excellent reception from his fans.
Unfortunately, with less than a week to go before the concert, organizers announced the postponement of the event due to low ticket sales. A new date was set for December 16, but just two days later, the concert was canceled altogether.
In the media, the two partners of the company mutually blame each other for this resounding failure. One accuses the other of embezzling funds, while the other accuses him of stealing 6,000 tickets and blowing the concert’s budget.
This matter is expected to be resolved in court and it is still uncertain whether Burna Boy will return to South Africa for a concert soon. In the meantime, fans are mostly concerned about getting their tickets refunded.
Despite this disappointment, it is undeniable that Burna Boy remains one of the most talented and popular artists of the moment. His talent and unique style will certainly continue to captivate crowds around the world, and there is no doubt that he will bounce back from this disappointment.
