The governor of Kasai-Central province is committed to improving the conditions of detention of prisoners by setting up socio-professional training programs. As part of a partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Department of Human Rights, a large batch of agricultural equipment and inputs was delivered to the Kananga central prison.
This initiative aims to provide inmates with the tools necessary to learn professional skills in areas such as carpentry, soapmaking, baking and agriculture. The governor of the province, John Kabeya Shikayi, expressed his wish to see these resources used optimally for the benefit of the detainees.
It is planned that prisoners will benefit from practical training in these different areas, thus enabling them to acquire useful skills for their social and professional reintegration after their release.
This initiative demonstrates the provincial government’s commitment to rehabilitating prisoners and promoting their reintegration into society. Socio-professional training offers an opportunity for personal development and reconstruction of the dignity of prisoners, while helping to reduce recidivism.
In conclusion, this action undertaken by the governor of the Kasai-Central province in partnership with the UNDP and the human rights department is an important step towards the rehabilitation of prisoners and their reintegration into society. It provides inmates with the opportunity to learn job skills that will aid their reintegration and enable them to lead productive lives after their release.
