“International coordination for peace in Sudan: key players come together for a peaceful solution”

The news in Sudan is marked by a devastating civil war which has lasted for several years. Initiatives to promote peace are multiplying, but often find themselves in competition with each other.

At the recent meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, all actors concerned by the conflict in Sudan came together with the aim of better coordinating their actions and strengthening their efforts to achieve a peaceful solution . Among the participants were Sudan’s neighboring countries, such as Egypt, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Chad, as well as regional organizations such as the African Union and IGAD. Mediating countries including France, Germany, the United States, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were also present.

This joint initiative by France and Germany was born from the conviction that too much mediation can harm peace efforts. Indeed, the more actors there are involved in mediation, the easier it is for the conflicting parties to use these mediations to their advantage and continue their war actions. Thus, these different countries agreed to better coordinate their initiatives and to meet regularly to take stock of the situation and decide on the actions to be taken.

However, it is important to note that despite these peace initiatives, the current situation in Sudan remains very complex and difficult to resolve. Internal conflicts, geopolitical interests and regional rivalries continue to fuel violence and division within the country. It is therefore crucial that all stakeholders redouble their efforts and demonstrate real commitment to peace.

In conclusion, the coordination of peace initiatives in Sudan is a step in the right direction, but much remains to be done to end the civil war and bring true stability to the country. Political will, international support and sincere commitment from all parties are essential to achieve a lasting and peaceful solution.
