“Diplomatic meeting between the DRC and Romania: Cooperation in education and health, study opportunities to be seized for Congolese youth”

The Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Benelux, Christian Ndongala Nkuku, recently met with the Ambassador of Romania to Belgium, Andreea Pasramac, to discuss possibilities for cooperation in the field of education. The two personalities explored the possibility of reactivating cooperation mechanisms in order to offer study stays in French-speaking Romanian universities to young Congolese.

Romania, which is known to be a magnet for African students, particularly Congolese, has a tradition of granting scholarships to foreign students from developing countries. This meeting made it possible to reaffirm the commitment of the two countries to strengthen their cooperative relations, particularly in the areas of health and education.

The Romanian ambassador pledged to support the Congolese strategy of strengthening the capacities of health professionals, in particular by offering training to doctors at Camp Tshatshi hospital in Kinshasa. For his part, the Congolese ambassador reaffirmed his country’s desire to organize the elections within constitutional deadlines.

The worrying security and humanitarian situation in eastern DRC was also discussed during this meeting. Romania expressed its deep concerns over this situation and welcomed the efforts made by President Félix Tshisekedi to restore peace in the country. She also requested the DRC’s support for the Romanian candidate for the International Criminal Court (ICC).

This meeting between the ambassador of the DRC and the ambassador of Romania demonstrates the desire of the two countries to strengthen their cooperation in the fields of education and health. It also opens the door to new opportunities for Congolese youth, who could benefit from study stays in French-speaking Romanian universities. A fruitful collaboration which could contribute to the development and fulfillment of Congolese youth in these key areas.
