“Demilitarization and humanitarian aid: the keys to stabilizing Nagorno-Karabakh”

Nagorno-Karabakh: a territory marked by demilitarization and humanitarian aid

The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh continues to arouse the interest and concern of the international community. After the announcement of a ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenian forces, new developments have arisen. Azerbaijan, together with Russia, has begun a process of “demilitarization” of separatist forces, a crucial step in ending hostilities in the region.

In the town of Shusha, which came under the control of Azerbaijan three years ago, a spokesperson for the Azerbaijani army announced cooperation with Russian peacekeepers for the demilitarization of separatist troops. Hundreds of small arms and tanks were presented to journalists as evidence of this ongoing demilitarization.

However, this process could take time due to the presence of some separatist fighters in remote mountainous areas. The current priority is the demining and complete demilitarization of the region to allow a return to normal and guarantee the safety of the inhabitants.

At the same time, a first convoy from the International Red Cross arrived in Nagorno-Karabakh, bringing 70 tonnes of humanitarian aid to the local population. This arrival is an important step to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the conflict. Food, water, medicine and fuel were scarce in the region, creating a difficult humanitarian situation for many people.

The disarmament process and the provision of humanitarian aid mark a crucial step towards stabilizing the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. Talks between the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan, under the auspices of Russia, should make it possible to organize the withdrawal of troops and the return of displaced citizens to their homes.

However, the situation remains worrying for many residents of Nagorno-Karabakh who are awaiting evacuations and additional assistance. Some areas are still without electricity and fuel, while shortages of food and medicine persist.

The international community continues to closely monitor the situation and call for a peaceful and lasting resolution to the conflict. Demilitarization and humanitarian assistance are important steps, but further efforts are needed to ensure security and stability in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
