“Conference on land policies in Africa: Accelerating the implementation of the AfCFTA through sustainable land governance”

The fifth edition of the Conference on Land Policies in Africa (CLPA) will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from November 21 to 24. Organized by the African Center for Land Policy, in partnership with the Ethiopian government, this conference aims to promote sustainable land governance in Africa with the aim of accelerating the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) .

The event will take place in a hybrid format, with both virtual and in-person sessions in Addis Ababa. The organizers of the conference emphasize that the theme chosen, “Promoting sustainable land governance in Africa to accelerate the implementation of the AfCFTA”, is linked to the theme of the African Union for the year 2023, which is “ Acceleration of the implementation of the AfCFTA.

The objective of this conference is to strengthen capacities for developing, implementing and monitoring land policies in Africa, by promoting better access to knowledge and information. The discussions will also help develop partnerships and resources to improve land governance in Africa.

Different themes will be discussed during the conference, such as good practices in developing land policies to improve cross-border trade in Africa, establishing inclusive and transparent land governance practices, and assessing the effectiveness of land governance.

This meeting will bring together experts from government, academia, research, traditional authorities, the private sector and development partners. It will provide the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences for better management of land policies in Africa.
