The Francophonie Games: Congolese athletes shine and win 34 medals for the DRC

The 9th Francophonie Games, which took place in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), ended last Sunday. This major sporting event was an opportunity for Congolese athletes to shine and proudly represent their country. Despite difficult preparations due to lack of resources, Congolese athletes performed well, allowing the DRC to win a total of 34 medals.

The results obtained by the DRC during these Francophonie Games are encouraging, especially if we compare with the previous edition where the country only won 3 medals. This year, Congolese athletes won 5 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 18 bronze medals, which places them in 9th position in the general ranking, behind countries such as Morocco and Romania.

The disciplines that particularly shone for the DRC are freestyle and Olympic wrestling, which won 9 medals (2 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze), as well as athletics and para athletics, which contributed with a total of 11 medals (3 silver and 8 bronze). Other sports such as judo, African wrestling and table tennis also made their contribution by winning a few medals.

However, despite these successes, some sports such as basketball, football and cycling have failed to win medals. It was a disappointment for the Congolese, who hoped to see these disciplines be rewarded. Nevertheless, the Leopards cadet ladies were able to show their talent and their qualities during the events, suggesting great prospects for the future.

In recognition of the efforts and performances of Congolese athletes, the authorities plan to organize a reception in their honor. It is important to salute their determination and commitment despite the constraints they had to face.

These Francophonie Games were therefore an opportunity for the DRC to stand out on the international sporting scene, highlighting the talent and potential of Congolese athletes. They are a source of pride for the country and demonstrate the importance of sport in building a nation.

The DRC has reached a new milestone in the development of its sports and hopes to continue to shine in future international competitions. Thanks to their passion and determination, Congolese athletes can inspire an entire generation and contribute to the evolution of sport in the DRC.
