Round table on the state of siege in the DRC: towards a responsible solution for the future of the country
Monday August 14, 2023, Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), hosted the opening of a round table on the state of siege in force in the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu since more than 2 years. This 3-day meeting was initiated by the Congolese head of state with the aim of evaluating this measure and considering a responsible solution for the future of the country.
In his opening speech, the President stressed that the state of siege was not intended to continue and called on participants to make an objective assessment of the situation. He insisted on the importance of being aware of the issues and showing responsibility, because the future of the entire nation is at stake.
The Congolese Prime Minister also recalled the president’s desire to make Congo a peaceful state. This round table therefore aims to find the best solutions to guarantee peace and stability in the provinces concerned.
