“Opening to dialogue between the government and Succès Masra in Chad: towards national reconciliation?”

“News: Openness to dialogue between the government and Succès Masra in Chad”

In recent news in Chad, Succès Masra, an opponent in exile, requested a dialogue with the authorities with a view to obtaining a national reconciliation agreement and guarantees for his return, as well as that of other exiles. The Minister of National Reconciliation, Abderaman Koulamallah, responded to this request by opening the door to the return of the leader of the Les Transformateurs party. However, reservations are expressed about further negotiations.

Minister Koulamallah affirms that dialogues with opponents are always accepted, but emphasizes that this will not call into question the current electoral process. He believes that the country is moving towards the establishment of institutions and that it is not possible to go back on what has already been done. However, he says he is willing to accommodate opponents as part of the ongoing process.

Success Masra formulated specific requests, such as a dialogue in September, in an African country outside Chad, with the participation of different actors. However, the minister believes that this no longer corresponds to current reality and that new dialogues are not possible. Instead, he encourages Succès Masra to return without a deal and engage in the ongoing political process.

The minister emphasizes that Succès Masra’s demands, such as security measures and an amnesty, do not fall within his remit. However, he asserts that the security of the opposition leader will be guaranteed if he returns to the country. He also recalls that even people who participated in violent events were pardoned by the head of state.

In conclusion, the Chadian government opens the door to a dialogue with Succès Masra, but insists on the importance of not calling into question the current electoral process. The return of the opponent is encouraged, but reservations are expressed regarding new negotiations. Security guarantees for the opposition leader are assured, but specific requests, such as an amnesty, are a matter for other judicial bodies. The situation therefore remains to be monitored, with the hope of national reconciliation and participation of all political actors in the Chadian democratic process.
