In a commendable and supportive gesture, the staff of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) in Beni provided valuable assistance to detainees in the city’s prisons. Food and non-food products to relieve detainees:
The MONUSCO delegation, made up of dedicated staff, visited three prison houses in Beni to support the detainees. Their generosity was demonstrated through the distribution of food such as rice, cassava flour, beans, vegetable oil, as well as hygiene kits for women. The detained children were not forgotten, games were provided to entertain them and support them psychologically.

An unwavering partner for local authorities:
The Mayor of Beni, Senior Chief Commissioner Jacob Nyofondo Te Kodale, warmly welcomed MONUSCO’s gesture, stressing that the UN mission is an essential partner for the community. He expressed his gratitude to MONUSCO for its constant and rapid support in emergency situations. The presence of MONUSCO fills the gaps and provides valuable support to the State to guarantee the well-being of detainees.

The MONUSCO delegation was led by Josias Obat, head of the MONUSCO/Beni office, who explained the purpose of their presence: to support the Congolese state in its efforts to ensure the well-being of detainees.
