Transparency guarantees for the 2023 elections in the DRC: Discussions are making serious progress
The question of transparency guarantees for the 2023 elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo is sparking numerous discussions and debates. Martin Fayulu and his Lamuka camp are firmly determined not to submit their candidacies until their demands are met.
Prince Epenge, spokesperson for Lamuka, emphasizes that their partners are putting pressure on them to submit their candidacies, but they refuse to submit blindly. They demand that every vote of the Congolese be counted and published, in order to ensure true transparency of the electoral process.
Martin Fayulu’s camp is actively working with political, ecclesiastical and other partners to put in place mechanisms to prevent electoral fraud. One of the main concerns relates to the electoral register, which must be independently audited to eliminate any suspicion of manipulation.
Unfortunately, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) seems to resist the idea of a new audit of the file. Prince Epenge deplores this position, affirming that the audit would be beneficial both for the CENI and for the Congolese people.
The discussions are progressing seriously, and Martin Fayulu’s camp promises to report on the level of these discussions at the appropriate time. In the meantime, no Lamuka candidacy has been filed for the various current elections, as a sign of protest against the CENI’s refusal to respond to their requests for transparency.
It is essential to guarantee fair and transparent elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Confidence in the electoral process is essential to ensure the legitimacy of the results and prevent any risk of dispute. Lamuka and his partners will therefore continue to work to ensure that the 2023 elections do not repeat the mistakes of the past.
