In view of the growing tensions between the young people of the sacred union in the city of Lubumbashi, it is imperative to take measures to bring both parties to reason. More particularly, the clashes between young people from the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) and the National Union of Federalists of Congo (UNAFEC) disrupted the peace of the city’s population.
It is in this context that a meeting was held led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Security, Peter Kazadi Kankonde, who was visiting Lubumbashi. This meeting aimed to recall the common history between the two political parties, highlighting the emblematic figures Étienne Tshisekedi and Antoine Gabriel Kyungu wa Kumwanza.
The Deputy Prime Minister underlined the importance of this heritage by declaring: “Étienne Tshisekedi Wa Mulumba and Gabriel Kyungu Wa Kumwanza were pioneers of the UDPS. Together they took the courageous decision to found the UDPS with the aim of to fight for democracy and the rule of law in our country. That was their fight.”
The Governor of Haut-Katanga, Jacques Kyabula Katwe, also participated in this meeting and called on the two parties to preserve living together and to avoid behavior that could undermine the security of the population. He insisted on the importance of preserving the general interest and not disrupting the population in their daily lives.
It is essential to find common ground between the UDPS and UNAFEC in order to guarantee the security and tranquility of the inhabitants of Lubumbashi. The recurring clashes between young people from the two political parties only sow disorder and cause human losses.
It is therefore imperative that leaders of the two political parties commit to peacefully resolving their differences and working together for the well-being of the population. We must not forget the common objective of these political parties: to fight for democracy and social progress.
In conclusion, it is time to put an end to the clashes between the young people of the UDPS and UNAFEC in Lubumbashi. The meeting led by Deputy Prime Minister Peter Kazadi Kankonde recalled the common history and the importance of preserving living together. It is essential that political leaders find a peaceful solution to guarantee the security of the population and the progress of the city of Lubumbashi.
