Mosquito control operation in Paris: fight against the tiger mosquito in the heart of the capital

Tiger mosquito: a mosquito control operation in the heart of Paris

For several years, the tiger mosquito, native to tropical Asia, has been making waves in France. Its presence, particularly in the Paris region, worries the health authorities because of the risk of spreading diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya. In order to limit their proliferation, a mosquito control operation was recently carried out in the heart of the capital.

Val de Marne, the department which welcomed the first specimens of tiger mosquitoes in 2015, is now fully colonized. And the trend is confirmed for the whole of Ile-de-France, with the exception of Brittany which remains spared for the moment. Faced with this rapid expansion of the tiger mosquito, the authorities have decided to act.

At the end of August, a mosquito control operation was implemented for the first time in Paris. In collaboration with the Regional Health Agency (ARS) and municipal services, insecticide treatments were carried out in the areas concerned in order to eliminate the larvae and adults present.

This operation is part of a more global strategy aimed at combating the proliferation of the tiger mosquito. Awareness-raising actions are carried out in particular to inform the population about the actions to be taken to avoid the reproduction of mosquitoes, such as emptying containers of stagnant water around their homes and installing mosquito nets.

It is important to remember that the tiger mosquito is a potential vector of diseases, but it cannot transmit these infections without having been previously contaminated by a sick person. Therefore, everyone’s vigilance is crucial to limit the risks of spreading these diseases.

In conclusion, the presence of the tiger mosquito in Ile-de-France, including in the heart of Paris, is worrying. This mosquito control operation is an important measure to reduce the proliferation of these insects and limit health risks. However, it is essential that each individual adopt preventive measures to avoid water stagnation and protect themselves from mosquito bites.
