The excitement reigns in Kinshasa after the closing of the ninth Games of La Francophonie. While accusations of embezzlement weighed on the organizing committee of the event, the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) issued its conclusions and announced that no embezzlement of public funds had been found.
The IGF, which supervised all the financial operations of the Games of La Francophonie, declared itself satisfied with the management of this structure. A meeting between Jules Alingete, Inspector General of the IGF, and Isidore Kwandja, Director General of the National Committee of the Games of La Francophonie, made it possible to take stock of the situation.
According to the minutes of the meeting, the IGF and the national committee are in the process of carrying out an inventory of the assets of the Games of La Francophonie, which will then be made available to the Steering Committee for assignment to the various state services.
The head of the IGF, Jules Alingete, told the press that no embezzlement of public funds had taken place at the level of the national committee of the Games of La Francophonie. All financial operations were carried out under the control of the IGF.
This announcement comes after a series of accusations against the organizing committee. Among these, the order for 12 Toyota Land Cruiser Police Pick-up vehicles caused controversy. The IGF, thanks to its patrols, had recovered 6 Toyota Land Cruiser Jeeps which had been hijacked and registered in the name of individuals. The director general of the national committee of the Games of La Francophonie had explained that these vehicles had arrived late because of a late order and that they were currently blocked in customs for lack of financial means to clear them.
This clarification from the IGF should ease tensions and put an end to the accusations of embezzlement that weighed on the organizing committee of the Games of La Francophonie. It now remains to settle the other outstanding issues, in particular the payment of suppliers and service providers who are waiting to be paid by the national committee of the Games of La Francophonie.
The ninth Games of La Francophonie were a resounding success for the Democratic Republic of Congo, which hosted this international competition with pride. Despite the difficulties encountered upstream, the organization of this event was praised both on the sporting level and on the logistical level. Let’s hope that this clarification from the IGF will turn the page on the accusations and focus on promoting the exploits of the athletes and artists who participated in these historic Games.
