Current events in the Democratic Republic of Congo continue to attract attention and debate. Today, we are looking at the opening of the 55th session of the Council of Ministers of the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA) in Kinshasa. This event, chaired by Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, aims to strengthen cooperation between the member countries of this organization and to discuss issues related to business law in Africa.
In his opening speech, Prime Minister Sama Lukonde highlighted the importance of OHADA in promoting a legal environment favorable to economic development in Africa. He recalled the commitment of the Democratic Republic of Congo to supporting the objectives of the organization and pleaded for the installation of one of its institutions on Congolese territory.
This plea from the Prime Minister demonstrates the Congolese government’s desire to play an active role in the harmonization of business law in Africa. By welcoming an OHADA institution, the DRC wishes to strengthen its position in terms of business law and contribute to the creation of an environment favorable to economic exchanges and investments.
The inclusion of OHADA in the political agenda of the Congolese government is also part of the vision of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, who wishes to promote a healthy business climate and promote the economic development of the country. By strengthening the legal and judicial security of business activities, OHADA membership contributes to attracting investors and creating jobs.
However, challenges remain numerous for the DRC. The Prime Minister denounced Rwanda’s aggression against the country and highlighted the dramatic consequences of this situation on civilian populations and natural resources. He recalled the need for integrity, equity and peace to promote sustainable economic development.
The 55th session of the OHADA Council of Ministers therefore presents itself as an opportunity for member countries to strengthen their cooperation and work together to create a legal and economic environment conducive to development
