The inhabitants of the Bahumbu district, located in the commune of Kimbanseke in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, are sounding the alarm. They ask the provincial authorities to intervene to improve and change the electric cables that supply their neighborhood. Indeed, these cables, installed almost forty years ago, have never benefited from maintenance and are no longer able to provide a stable and reliable power supply to the inhabitants.
According to the testimonies of the inhabitants of the Mikazu district, these electric cables regularly break down, leading to power cuts lasting several months. This situation is particularly worrying, as it has a direct impact on the daily lives of residents. In addition to the inconveniences linked to the lack of electricity, this energy instability promotes insecurity in the district, especially during off-peak hours when acts of delinquency can multiply.
The inhabitants also denounce the lack of maintenance of these cables by the agents in charge of the distribution of electricity. According to them, these agents are active when it comes to distributing the bills, but totally neglect the monitoring and maintenance of the electricity infrastructure. This negligence highlights a wider problem with the management of public services and the maintenance of electrical installations in the region.
Faced with this worrying situation, the inhabitants of Bahumbu call on the provincial authorities of Kinshasa to take urgent measures to remedy this problem. They point out that improving the electrical cables in their neighborhood would not only ensure a reliable electricity supply, but would also help reduce insecurity and improve the quality of life for residents.
