“Bahumbu district in Kinshasa: residents demand urgent improvements for dilapidated power cables”

The article that I am going to present to you deals with a problem that affects many residential neighborhoods around the world: the obsolescence of electrical cables. More specifically, we will focus on the Bahumbu district, located in the municipality of Kimbanseke, where the inhabitants are demanding improvements and replacement of the electric cables that supply their sector.

According to testimonies collected on the spot, these electric cables were installed almost forty years ago and have never been the subject of regular maintenance. As a result, they are no longer able to provide reliable power to homes in the neighborhood. Blackouts are frequent and residents sometimes find themselves without electricity for months.

This situation causes many inconveniences for the inhabitants of Bahumbu. In addition to the lack of daily comfort, the instability of electricity in the neighborhood promotes insecurity. Indeed, during off-peak hours when public lighting is lacking, the risk of aggression is greater. Residents also fear that this will encourage the emergence of criminal groups, such as the notorious “kuluna”.

Faced with this worrying situation, the inhabitants of the Bahumbu district are calling on the provincial authorities of Kinshasa. They require regular maintenance of the electrical cables and, if necessary, their replacement with new, more efficient cables. They also underline the importance of the presence of agents dedicated to the maintenance of the electrical network, so as to ensure constant monitoring and prevent breakdowns.

It is undeniable that improving the power supply in the Bahumbu district would be beneficial in many ways. Not only would it improve the daily lives of residents, but it would also help reduce the risk of insecurity and promote the region’s economic development.

In conclusion, it is essential that the provincial authorities of Kinshasa take into account the grievances of the inhabitants of the Bahumbu district and implement concrete actions to improve and replace the faulty electric cables. This would help create a safer and more conducive environment for the development of economic and social activities in this residential area
