New challenges for the elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo: inauguration of the Election House by the CENI
On August 23, 2023, the President of the National Electoral Commission (CENI), Denis Kadima Kazadi, cut the symbolic ribbon of the House of Elections during its official inauguration in Kinshasa. This new space for exchange aims to facilitate interactions between the CENI and Congolese citizens, in order to strengthen transparency and confidence in the electoral process.
Located in the commune of Gombe in Kinshasa, the Elections House aims to be a crossroads of information, offering privileged access to citizens wishing to obtain information on the electoral process. It is also positioned as an important communication tool, intended to train the media, civil society organizations and political parties. By fostering informed and informed voter participation, Election House aims to build voter buy-in and promote the inclusion of all segments of the population, including women, youth, illiterates and people living with disabilities.
CENI President Denis Kadima expressed his gratitude to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the many financial partners who made this project possible. He underlined that the House of Elections is above all that of the voters, and that it will be open to all, without any particular protocol, in order to promote a warm and welcoming environment for those who pass through its doors.
In the coming days, the House of Elections will welcome representatives of community radios from all over the DRC, with the aim of providing them with as much information as possible on upcoming electoral activities, the legal framework and ongoing innovations. Since the radio is the media closest to the population, the CENI wishes to guarantee access to sufficient information to allow each voter to make an informed choice during the next elections.
Beyond its functionality as a space for information and training, the Election House is also a place conducive to constructive dialogue with the various actors involved in the electoral process. It offers a framework promoting exchanges and interactions, thus strengthening democracy and citizen participation.
This CENI initiative marks a new step in strengthening transparency and inclusiveness in the electoral process in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The House of Elections embodies the CENI’s commitment to improving the quality of services rendered and building strong relationships with stakeholders. By offering a space for discussion and privileged access to information, it helps to build renewed confidence in the elections and Congolese democracy
