This is why, each year, a conference is organised, bringing together these ambassadors to discuss international issues and the priorities of French diplomacy. This year, it was President Emmanuel Macron himself who spoke at this conference, setting out his priorities for France’s foreign policy in a difficult international context.
Among the points addressed by President Macron, we find first of all the question of Europe and the West, which according to him run the risk of weakening in the face of the emergence of new major international powers. Another subject addressed by Emmanuel Macron concerns Azerbaijan. The French president announces a diplomatic initiative to lift the persistent blockage by Azerbaijan of the Lachin corridor, which is the only road linking Armenia to the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh. This initiative aims to increase pressure on Azerbaijan in order to obtain respect for the Lachin humanitarian corridor and to facilitate exchanges between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
Finally, Emmanuel Macron also called for the release of the four French people detained in Iran, which he describes as unacceptable conditions. He insists on the fact that nothing justifies the detention of French nationals in such conditions and calls for their immediate release.
