Title: Improving the economic governance of public enterprises in the DRC: a priority for President Félix Tshisekedi

Introduction:
In an effort to strengthen the economic governance of public enterprises in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), President Félix Tshisekedi recently recalled the importance of good management and transparency within these entities. During a meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Head of State highlighted the low contribution of these companies to the State budget and called for urgent measures to improve their performance.

Deficient economic governance:
Despite the efforts made by the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) and other control bodies, President Tshisekedi has found that some public companies continue to adopt poor management practices. In particular, he pointed the finger at the inaction of the auditors, responsible for ensuring the proper management of public finances. These independent experts, despite their general interest mandate, did not fully fulfill their role in detecting and correcting management anomalies.

The objectives set by the President:
To address these shortcomings, President Tshisekedi set out key objectives aimed at improving the economic governance of public enterprises. He insisted on the need to improve the quality of the services provided to users, as well as respect for social obligations towards workers. The President also stressed the importance of transforming the exploitation and production potential of assets, as well as reaching break-even points to increase the contribution of these entities to the State budget.

A call to action:
Faced with these challenges, President Tshisekedi asked the Minister of State, Minister of Portfolio, under the supervision of the Prime Minister, to take urgent measures to remedy the situation. He also called on the Ministry of Finance to support the National Order of Chartered Accountants (ONEC) in supervising and improving the conditions of service of its members. This measure aims to strengthen the role of chartered accountants in promoting good economic governance in the DRC.

Conclusion :
Improving the economic governance of public enterprises in the DRC is a priority for President Félix Tshisekedi. By emphasizing good management, transparency and the responsibility of the actors involved, the Congolese government seeks to guarantee a better contribution from these entities to the state budget. These measures are essential to promote the country’s economic development and strengthen the confidence of national and international investors in the Congolese public sector
