The damage caused by M23 terrorists in Rutshuru is causing deep distress among the local population. Recent acts of abuse, such as the looting of the General Reference Hospital and the office of the Territorial Youth Council, have created a climate of despair and uncertainty.
On Wednesday night, M23 rebels carried out systematic looting at the Rutshuru General Reference Hospital. Their act of vandalism led to the destruction of the establishment’s safe and the looting of the pharmacy.
On the same day, the office of the Territorial Youth Council of Rutshuru was devastated by ten elements of the M23/RDF aboard a jeep. The attackers took away all of this organisation’s property, including modern chairs, sound equipment and kitchen equipment.
In the locality of Kalengera, the presence of armed men in civilian clothes on the market has sown timidity among traders. Their intentions and identity remain unknown. At the same time, many residents of Tongo fled to Kalengera to escape clashes between the wazalendo and M23 members during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.
Moreover, in the Busanza groupement, the invaders have violently attacked the positions of the patriotic resistance fighters of the Popular Self-Defense Movement since August 14th. Terrorist camps have been set up in the villages of Katikinyange, Katibo and Kabarode.
Faced with this alarming situation, the local population feels helpless and powerless. The Collectif des Victimes de l’Agression Rwandaise (CVAR) once again urges the Congolese government to assume its responsibilities to liberate the territories under the control of the aggressor.
It is essential to highlight the devastating impact of these abuses on the population and the urgent need for government intervention to restore security and protect civilians
