June 17, 2023 marks a historic event for the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLA). It celebrates its 20th anniversary in Kinshasa. This event will make it possible to take stock of the past two decades and define the ambitions for the next 20 years.
According to a press release received by Radio Okapi, OPDAD has been a real catalyst for change in promoting access to essential services as well as the empowerment of women and young people. Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, vice-president of this organization and first lady of the DRC, points out that despite the efforts made on the African continent, “the obstacles to the achievement of gender equality are still too great. It is therefore urgent to act. »
OPDAD aims to work in collaboration with African governments to organize awareness campaigns, improve access to health, education, vocational training for women and young people, as well as help solve the environmental issues, especially those related to climate change.
Celebrating its anniversary is a great opportunity for this organization to reflect on its accomplishments, reflect on its future plans and encourage continued collaboration to achieve its goals.
