Kongo Central, a mining province with great potential for industrial development in the DRC.

The development of mining industrialization and agriculture to fight against food insufficiency was at the heart of the reflection panel which marked the second day of the Congolese mining week. This discussion session was moderated, among others, by the Prime Minister, Sama Lukonde, governors, vice-governors and experts in economic development.

During this panel, the governor of Kongo Central, Dr. Guy Bandu Ndungidi, pointed out that the province had a strong mining potential, but that it had been little exploited by the settlers, to avoid erosion. According to him, with a geology somewhat similar to that of Katanga, his province has two major assets to facilitate the industrialization of the mining sector: the energy provided by the Inga dam and the infrastructure necessary for the evacuation of mining products.

“Being ready means having a Mining Code. Thing we have, to have major assets that a mining province must have: energy and infrastructure. So Kongo-central is the right place to invest in the mining sector,” he said.

The potential of Kongo Central in industrial development in the DRC is therefore undeniable, and players in this field should consider investing in this province which offers favorable conditions for quality mining production. It remains to be hoped that investors will be able to act quickly and realize this potential.
