The mini congress of the Congolese National Union, UNC, was held this Saturday, August 19, 2023 in Kinshasa. During this event, two major decisions were made by the participants. First of all, they renewed their confidence in Vital Kamerhe by keeping him at the head of the organization. Then they nominated Félix Tshisekedi as the UNC candidate for the next presidential election scheduled for December 2023.
Vital Kamerhe, in his speech, stressed that the UNC had always been committed to the good fight, distinguishing personal ambitions from the destiny of the group. He expressed his confidence in Felix Tshisekedi, considering this alliance a winning ticket, recalling their joint success in the previous elections in 2018.
Billy Kamba, secretary general of the UNC, confirmed that Felix Tshisekedi was nominated as the UNC candidate for the presidential election of December 2023. He justified this decision by highlighting the positive achievements of President Tshisekedi while stressing that he still had projects to complete. Deputy Amato Bayubasire also expressed his support for Félix Tshisekedi and affirmed that the UNC, under the leadership of Vital Kamerhe, joined this aspiration for a second presidential term.
Before the UNC, several political parties of the Sacred Union, including the AFDC-A, the CNC and the UDPS, had already nominated Felix Tshisekedi as their candidate to face the opposition in the presidential election. This consolidation of political forces around the candidacy of Félix Tshisekedi shows a desire for unity and unity in the pursuit of political construction in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
