“Call from Father Justin Nkunz: For responsible and useful elections in the DRC”

In view of the upcoming elections, Father Justin Nkunz, Director of the Diocesan Justice and Peace Commission (CDJP) of the Archdiocese of Bukavu, appealed to the Congolese to vote responsibly and usefully. In an interview given to Radio Okapi, this Catholic prelate expressed his concern over nepotism and dictatorship within the Congolese political class.

Father Justin Nkunz urged voters not to support candidates who favor their relatives by registering them on the electoral lists. According to him, this only leads to lamentations and bad governance. He also criticized candidates who do not hold primaries within their political parties, but are elected on the basis of gifts such as loincloths. According to Abbé Nkunz, it is essential to vote for honest and democratic candidates, who are ready to serve the general interest rather than their own interests.

Furthermore, Father Nkunz underlined the importance of not being seduced by the beautiful electoral promises of the candidates. According to him, it is essential to judge politicians on the basis of their past actions and their commitment to the well-being of the Congolese people. Voters must be vigilant and critically analyze candidate proposals in order to make an informed choice in elections.

This call from Father Justin Nkunz reminds us of the importance of voting responsibly and consciously. Elections are an opportunity for citizens to choose their leaders and influence the future of their country. It is crucial to take into account the values of integrity, democracy and public service in the choice of candidates. By voting useful, the Congolese can contribute to the construction of a political system based on transparency, justice and respect for the rights of all
