“Strengthening of DRC-China cooperation: SICOMINES invests in projects to improve local life”.

News in the DRC: China and the DRC strengthen their cooperation

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and China signed several partnership agreements during a visit by Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi to China. The two countries thus wish to strengthen their bilateral cooperation in order to work together for the benefit of their respective peoples.

A concrete example of this collaboration is the Sino-Congolaise des Mines (SICOMINES), which contributes to the well-being of the Congolese population by respecting its commitments in terms of social responsibility. The mining company has launched about twenty projects with direct and visible impact intended to improve the living conditions of local communities impacted by its activities. Already underway, these projects include the construction of technical schools, an agricultural mechanization project, support for corn producers, the rehabilitation of dykes, etc.

SICOMINES is thus committed to changing the living conditions of the inhabitants of KAPATA, MUTAKA, BIWAYA, MAPENDO and YENGE affected by its activities. Among the ongoing projects, the pumping of drinking water in villages that had never experienced it before, such as Kaya 1, is already a concrete success. The drinking water supply project (18 wells), the rehabilitation of dirt roads in the Luilu sector, the construction of primary schools in the villages of Yenge and Mapendo, as well as the development of football pitches are also in progress. course.

Beyond these projects aimed at complying with the legal obligations in force under the revised 2018 mining code in the DRC and assuming its social responsibility, SICOMINES is showing its determination to ensure common development for all. This corresponds to the recommendations of the Chinese government vis-à-vis all Chinese companies established in the DRC.

Economic cooperation and infrastructure development are not the only areas concerned by cooperation between China and the DRC. Many other subjects, such as human rights, environmental issues, or even political challenges, are also at the heart of the concerns of the two countries.

These topics will be covered in future articles on the Fatshimétrie blog, dedicated to political, social and economic news in the DRC.
