“International symposium on the promotion of local governance in the DRC: experts offer solutions to end political crises”

The promotion of local governance in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is at the center of an international symposium which opened on Monday June 12 at the University of Lubumbashi, province of Haut-Katanga. The theme “A look at the recurrent political crises in the provinces from 2006 to the present day, analysis and perspectives” was developed by various experts in the field. University professors took part in this meeting.

The Minister of Industry Julien Paluku Kahongya, practitioner of decentralization with 21 years in the territorial spoke about the constitution, the central power, the political actors and the subjective causes which constitute the main causes of instability at the level of the provinces in the DRC. For him, the adaptation of the constitution to the real realities on the ground is necessary for a good implementation of decentralization, which augurs the emergence of the DRC.

For two days, eminent professors from the provinces of the DRC formulated proposals for the proper implementation of political and administrative governance at the local level. These resolutions will be presented to the President of the Republic, to the speakers of two chambers of Parliament and to the Prime Minister.

The issue of local governance is crucial in the DRC, where political crises have a direct impact on the country’s population and economy. Exchanges between experts open up avenues of reflection to strengthen local governance and improve the lives of millions of Congolese.
