The city of Mbuji-Mayi, in the province of Kasaï-Oriental, will soon experience a significant improvement in its access to drinking water. Indeed, the Reinforcement of the efficiency of drinking water services (RESE II) project, financed by the German Cooperation, recently delivered a building and vehicles intended to reinforce the supply of drinking water in this city.

The RESE II, which aims to support the government in the implementation of the water law and enforcement measures, aims to improve access to drinking water in different provinces of the Republic Democratic Republic of the Congo, including Kasaï-Oriental. Within the framework of this project, a provincial coordination was set up to supervise and manage the water supply projects.

During the handover ceremony, the technical advisor and head of the RESE II office for the provinces of Lomami and Kasaï-Oriental, Gisèle Kilemba, stressed the importance of making this provincial coordination a public service of excellence. She also mentioned the need to attract development partners and set up the delegation of public water services with private drinking water operators.

The interim governor of the province, Julie Kalenga, spoke about the government’s satisfaction at seeing the improvement in access to drinking water for the benefit of the population. She underlined the government’s commitment to the development of this vital sector.

The RESE II project is also operational in other provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, such as Kwilu, Lomami, Sud-Ubangi, Nord-Kivu and Sud-Kivu. The delivery of the building and rolling stock in Mbuji-Mayi thus marks a further step towards achieving the objectives set by the project.

This initiative to improve the efficiency of drinking water services in the city of Mbuji-Mayi is certainly a major step forward for the population, who will be able to benefit from more reliable access to drinking water. Hopefully, other similar projects will continue to be implemented throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo, helping to improve the living conditions of citizens
