The leaders of the Congolese National Radio Television (RTNC) and the National Satellite Telecommunications Network (RENATELSAT) met on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 with the Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, at the Binza Broadcasting Center Pigeons in Kinshasa. The purpose of this meeting was to assess the collaboration between these two public companies and to find solutions to improve the quality of the RTNC signal.
During this meeting, the heads of RTNC and RENATELSAT shared various technical problems with which they are confronted, in particular with regard to energy and interference caused by private channels broadcasting nearby. Minister Muyaya took note of these issues and assured that steps would be taken to address them.
The Minister also stressed the importance of complying with the standards of the International Telecommunications Union to ensure the quality of broadcasts. He also mentioned the modernization of public media and the need to digitize the entire broadcasting chain, including the provinces.
Regarding RENATELSAT, the Minister announced measures to strengthen this Congolese satellite operator, in order to ensure greater sovereignty and better compliance. He also mentioned the clarification of RENATELSAT’s legal status, which is the subject of ongoing work with the Prime Minister’s office.
In conclusion, Minister Muyaya reaffirmed his commitment to the modernization of public media and assured the participants of his support to meet the material needs and necessary reinforcement. He stressed that responses were expected from the Government in order to be able to pursue these projects.
This meeting bears witness to the importance attached by the Ministry of Communication and the Media to improving the quality of television broadcasts in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Thanks to this collaboration between RTNC and RENATELSAT, it is hoped that the technical problems will be solved and that viewers will be able to benefit from an optimal television signal throughout the country
