Title: Health situation in the DRC: health professionals win their case
The Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention presented the health situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo at the 101st meeting of the Council of Ministers. In particular, he mentioned the diseases of greatest concern such as cholera and measles and assured that the services are working tirelessly to curb, manage and eradicate these diseases.
The Minister also addressed the concerns of public health professionals, as the Union of Health Professionals had announced its intention to strike if the government did not respond to their demands.
Thus the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Public Service, Modernization and Administration and Public Service Innovation chaired a meeting last Saturday, which saw the participation of representatives of the Union of health sector. During this meeting, the work of the inter-ministerial commission was launched with a view to establishing the salary package and aligning the premium for doctors, nurses, administrators and other state public service health professionals.
The government has undertaken to gradually align doctors, nurses, administrators and other health professionals in the public services of the State with the commitments of BIBWA III, while removing the term “prohibition of the rights to strike of doctors and other professionals of health” in the proposal initiated by a parliamentarian.
This progress is good news for health professionals in the DRC, who had expressed their concerns and their salary demands. The government is thus showing its commitment to inclusive and equitable management of the country’s health situation, as well as that of its health professionals.
