Félix Tshisekedi appoints new military magistrates in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Sunday June 11 saw the appointment of 173 new military magistrates in a series of orders read out on national television. President Félix Tshisekedi appointed these military magistrates of the Public Ministry to the rank of Substitute of the Military Auditor of Garrison. The complete list of these new magistrates is available on various information sites.
The appointment comes amid growing insecurity in North Kivu province, where peaceful protests against rising water costs have been violently repressed by police. These acts of violence have been condemned by many civil society actors.
Furthermore, the Democratic Republic of Congo is in the process of modernizing its population identification and census system for future sustainable development. The country is also engaged in a strategic partnership with the European Union for a responsible value chain of critical minerals.
Finally, nine sponsor companies are coming together to share their experience and discuss the future of the mining sector in the DRC during DRC Mining Week 2023. An event that promises to be promising in a sector that contributes greatly to the Congolese economy.
Beyond this institutional and economic news, the Democratic Republic of Congo must still face significant challenges to establish lasting political stability and to guarantee equitable rights for all citizens.
