The territorial coordination of the civil society living forces of Mahagi reported a new incursion of the militiamen of the cooperative for the development of Congo (CODECO) in the Adrassi village of the chiefdom of Djukoth. According to Innocent Wabekudu, president of this civic organization, these assailants attacked civilians, killing 7 people including women and children, and set fire to 4 houses. The CODECO militia, despite having signed a peace agreement following a dialogue between local armed groups in Aru, has still not ceased to mourn the territories of Mahagi and Djugu.
This new attack has led to a massive influx of displaced people, who are heading towards neighboring localities which they consider safer. Despite the efforts of the provincial government and its partners to restore peace, the situation remains worrying in this region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Indeed, CODECO, which had signed acts of commitment of cessation of hostilities, continues to sow terror in the region of Mahagi and Djugu. Civilians are being held hostage by relentless fighting and the international community must redouble its efforts to help find a solution to this continuing humanitarian crisis.
It is therefore important to continue to highlight the tragic events taking place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in order to raise international public awareness and elicit a strong response from the international community to help resolve this difficult situation.
