The searches at Moïse Katumbi’s home fuel fears of a decline in the rule of law in the DRC.

The security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to concern the population. Indeed, the federation of Together for the Republic city of Kikwit denounces a hidden agenda aimed at excluding its leader Moïse Katumbi from the presidential race of 2023. This declaration follows the searches which were carried out in the residences of the candidate and of his special adviser Salomon Idi Kalonda.

In an interview with ACTUALITÉ.CD, President Jean Kitoko expressed his concern about a serious setback in the rule of law in the DRC. He denounced the search of the residence of Moïse Katumbi in his absence, considering it unacceptable.

Ensemble ville de Kikwit demands the immediate and unconditional release of Salomon Kalonda and calls on the population to be vigilant in the face of the dictatorial excesses of the power in place. According to Jean Kitoko, everything that is happening now is just a pretext to dismiss Moïse Katumbi from the 2023 presidential race.

The security crisis also persists in Kongo Central province, where the latest developments have been reported on the Fatshimétrie blog. In the Rwenzori sector, the ADF rebels continue to sow terror and paralyze education. Nevertheless, the DRC has also launched a new agricultural program in partnership with DEM and Bio-Agro Business to improve the productivity of the sector.

In parallel, a process of biometric identification of State agents has been launched in the province of Kasai Oriental, while the country takes a crucial step towards the issuance of national identity cards. Finally, the Leopards of the DRC are preparing to face the Panthers of Gabon for CAN 2023.

Despite this, the security situation remains fragile, as evidenced by the kidnappings of more than a hundred people last April. These events show that security is still under threat in the DRC.

The European Union is also discussing the security situation and the electoral process in the DRC with the DRC ambassador to Benelux and to the EU. Finally, armed men illegally occupied the residence of Moïse Katumbi, raising fears of an escalation of political violence in the DRC.

In conclusion, the situation in the DRC remains worrying, despite the initiatives launched by the government. The population continues to suffer the consequences of the security and political crisis
