The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is launching a new agricultural program, in partnership with DEM and Bio Agro Business. This program, known as the Agricultural Voluntary Program (PVA), is a three-party partnership involving the Congolese state, DEM and Bio Agro Business.
The project consists of providing agricultural materials and supplies for farmers and building processing units for the production of maize, cassava and rice. The DEM company, which provides the bases for the program, has undertaken to deliver agricultural equipment and supplies, build the warehouses and processing units, and ensure the maintenance of this equipment for three years.
For its part, the Congolese State should deliver finished sites to the company Bio Agro Business for the production and processing of agricultural products. The company will also be responsible for supervising and supporting farmers in rural areas.
This new agricultural program aims to boost the DRC’s agricultural sector, which represents more than 70% of the active population and nearly 40% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). The program aims to increase agricultural yields and production in order to reduce poverty and improve food security.
With this new program, the DRC therefore hopes to revive its agricultural sector and improve the living conditions of farmers and the local population.
