Title: RSE/WEPs Forum and Expo: Promoting Gender Equality in Congolese Entrepreneurship

Introduction :
As part of the Project on the Reform and Dissemination of the texts of laws favorable to Female Entrepreneurship, the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Congo (A.FE.E.CO) in partnership with UN Women organized two days of CSR/WEPs Forum and Expo. This event aims to highlight companies that apply the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This forum highlights the importance of promoting gender equality and supporting female entrepreneurs in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The challenges of empowering women in entrepreneurship:

The Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are central to fostering gender equality in business. These principles include the promotion of education and professional development for women, the establishment of empowerment practices within companies, and the promotion of equality through community initiatives. By applying these principles, companies help create an environment conducive to the development of women entrepreneurs.

A strong commitment to gender equality:

The RSE/WEPs Forum and Expo spotlight companies that have made gender equality a priority. Renowned panelists, such as Mrs. Edwine ENDUNDO from Vlisco RDC, Mrs. Marie Chantal Kaninda from Glencore and Mrs. Betty ATUNDU from BA consulting, are present to share their experiences and their commitments in favor of gender equality. These inspiring entrepreneurs are concrete examples of success in an environment that is resolutely favorable to women.

The support of the Congolese government:

The Minister of Gender, Ms. Mireille Masangu, reaffirmed the support of the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo to women entrepreneurs. The Support Project for the Development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (PADMPME) demonstrates this commitment by supporting the growth of MSMEs and creating employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for women and young people. This project, implemented in four cities, aims to reduce economic and social inequalities while promoting equitable development.

Conclusion :

The RSE/WEPs Forum and Expo organized by the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Congo and UN Women is a major event that highlights the importance of gender equality in Congolese entrepreneurship. By supporting women entrepreneurs and promoting the principles of women’s empowerment, these initiatives help create an enabling environment for economic growth and the reduction of gender inequalities
