Deadly violence in the province of Lualaba in the DRC: A mining conflict that continues

The province of Lualaba in the Democratic Republic of Congo has seen violent demonstrations that have led to the death of civilians. These events took place in the village of Kisankala, where diggers were attacked by armed men who chased them away from the mining sites they had been exploiting for years. According to testimonies, these sites have been handed over to Lebanese operators who exploit them illegally with the protection of armed elements.

A government delegation, led by the Minister of Mines, tried to calm the tension by promising to organize the cohabitation between the diggers and these Lebanese operators. However, this promise provoked a new wave of violence, which shows the urgency of a lasting solution to settle this conflict.
