“RFI is launching the tenth edition of the Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship to support young African journalism talents”

Ten years after the tragic double assassination of RFI reporters Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon in Kidal, northern Mali, RFI commemorates their memory. To mark this anniversary, RFI is launching the tenth edition of the Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship, with the aim of transmitting their passion for reporting to young African journalists and technicians.

This grant, created in tribute to Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon, rewards a young African journalist and technician each year. Applications are open to the 25 French-speaking countries of the African continent. The training will take place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, and the selected candidates will have the opportunity to follow workshops and produce a report or a sound element, under the supervision of a jury composed of representatives of RFI, the Ivorian press, the Sciences Po School of Journalism and INA.

The award will take place on November 2, the date declared the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists by the United Nations. The winners will also benefit from a one-month training in Paris.

Applications for the Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship are open from August 7 to August 25 at midnight, Paris time. Candidates must download the participation form, accompanied by their curriculum vitae, cover letter and a report or sound element according to their profile. All elements must be sent to the address [email protected].

This RFI initiative aims to honor the memory of Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon, while encouraging and supporting young African talents in the field of journalism and reporting technology. The Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship thus contributes to perpetuating their heritage and promoting excellence in journalism in Africa
