Search of Moïse Katumbi’s home: the opponent prosecuted for undermining state security

The search of the residence of the opponent and declared presidential candidate of December 2023, Moïse Katumbi and his right-hand man, Salomon Kalonda Della, which was carried out in the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was a significant event in the last days.

The supporters of the political party [Ensemble pour la République] of Moïse Katumbi stayed there during their stay last May in Kinshasa, on the sidelines of the joint actions of the opposition bloc that he composes with several political figures.

Moïse Katumbi’s adviser, Salomon Kalonda Della is being prosecuted for undermining state security and inciting soldiers to commit contrary acts. He is suspected of being linked with the Rwandan military authorities and the M23 terrorists to overthrow the power of Kinshasa and install a Katangese national there. The opposition demonstration in Kinshasa on May 20 was also cited to justify the detention of the man.

The searches were carried out in accordance with the law and warrants duly signed by the DRC judicial authority. Their aim was to collect the inculpatory evidence concerning the accusation of endangering state security.

This event was significant for the news of the DRC and intervenes in a context of search for those responsible for acts contrary to state security and justice for Congolese citizens. In this perspective, many initiatives have been launched for the maintenance of peace and the surveillance of the different regions of the Congo. The support of the United Nations in favor of institutional reform is also present and several meetings have taken place for consultation. The DRC is in the midst of a search for political and social stability and these events are proof of this.
