Introduction :
Ten years after the tragic assassination of RFI journalists Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon in Kidal, Mali, the radio is launching the tenth edition of the Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship. This scholarship aims to transmit the professionalism and passion for reporting to young journalists and technicians from the African continent. A tribute to Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon:
On November 2, 2013, Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon were on assignment in Kidal to prepare a series of programs on reconciliation and reconstruction in Mali. Unfortunately, they were kidnapped and murdered by jihadists. Ten years later, their memory is still alive and RFI wishes to pay tribute to their professionalism and their passion for reporting.
The tenth edition of the Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship:
To perpetuate the legacy of these two talented journalists, RFI is launching the tenth edition of the Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship. This scholarship rewards a young African journalist and technician each year. Candidates must be under 35 years old, have already worked in radio for at least two years and reside in one of the 25 French-speaking countries of Africa. The training, which will take place in Abidjan, will offer the winners the opportunity to improve their skills in the art of reporting and sound editing.
A selective process and a significant reward:
Candidate journalists and technicians must submit their application by filling out an entry form and sending a report or sound item. Applications will be evaluated by a jury made up of representatives from RFI, the Ivorian press, the Sciences Po School of Journalism and INA. Winners will be selected on the basis of their talent and potential. The scholarship will be awarded at a ceremony in November, on the occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.
A springboard for the career of young talents:
The scholarship winners will benefit from a one-month training in Paris, where they will be able to deepen their knowledge and skills in journalism and radio technique. This intensive program will offer them the opportunity to meet professionals in the sector and to discuss with their peers. This unique experience will help propel them in their careers and help them become key players in the African media landscape..
Conclusion :
The Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship is an important initiative that aims to perpetuate the legacy of two passionate and talented journalists. By offering quality training to young African talents, RFI contributes to strengthening journalism in French-speaking Africa and promoting freedom of expression. Interested young journalists and technicians are invited to apply and take this opportunity to train and get noticed in the media world
