“A historic cooperation for the preservation of forests between the DRC and Brazil”

Bilateral cooperation between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Brazil

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Brazil laid the foundations for multisectoral cooperation during a meeting between their heads of state on the sidelines of the Amazon Summit in Belém. This cooperation is mainly aimed at preserving the tropical forests of their respective forest basins.

Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo discussed the prospects for bilateral cooperation between their countries, as well as the crucial issue of the preservation of tropical forests and other international policy issues.

This meeting also discussed the subject of the trilateral summit between the DRC, Brazil and Indonesia, the exact date of which will be confirmed soon. The objective of this summit is to strengthen cooperation between these three countries in the preservation of forests and the fight against climate change.

President Tshisekedi, during his participation in the Amazon Summit, highlighted the strengths of the DRC in terms of environmental preservation. The country has vast tracts of forests and peatlands which play a vital role in regulating the global climate system. Congolese peatlands absorb significant amounts of carbon, thus contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The return of President Tshisekedi to Kinshasa marks an additional step in the strengthening of relations between the DRC and Brazil. Bilateral cooperation between these two countries offers many opportunities in various sectors, such as environment, economy, security and culture.

This cooperation also strengthens the role of the DRC as a country-solution to the challenges of climate change. By preserving its forests and implementing sustainable policies, the DRC contributes to the preservation of biodiversity and the fight against global warming.

The cooperation between the DRC and Brazil represents a significant advance in the protection of the environment and the promotion of sustainable development. This initiative demonstrates the importance of international collaboration to address the environmental and climate challenges we face
