Chancel Mbemba: OM receive offers for their defensive nugget
Chancel Mbemba, the central defender of Olympique de Marseille, is at the heart of transfer rumours. Despite a contract that binds him to the club until 2025, several Saudi Arabian clubs have shown interest in the Congolese player.
During discussions with the clubs concerned, the management of OM would have asked for a substantial sum to release Mbemba. However, these requests would not have been met by the potential buyers, according to French media.
Despite these offers, Chancel Mbemba is said to have expressed his desire to stay in Europe. During a press conference, the president of OM confirmed the club’s desire to keep the 29-year-old defender after the failure of negotiations. Mbemba, who formed a solid duo in central defense last season, aspires to participate in a new Champions League with OM.
However, Mbemba’s situation is not yet fully assured. Coach Marcelino seems to prefer other players to him at the moment, like Leonardo Balerdi and Samuel Gigot. The double confrontation against Panathinaikos in the 3rd round of the Champions League will be decisive in determining whether Mbemba will be part of the coach’s plans.
At the same time, Saudi clubs, which are looking to strengthen their championship by attracting international stars, could return to the charge in the coming weeks, taking advantage of a transfer window longer than that of Europe.
Despite the rumors of departure, Chancel Mbemba remains determined to continue his adventure in Marseille. It remains to be seen whether the next few weeks will confirm his place in the team and whether OM will be able to resist the Saudi offers
