“Sino-Congolese strategic partnership: the outline of this relaunched cooperation presented during a press briefing”

Since Monday, June 5, 2023, the Minister of Communication and Media, Government Spokesman, Patrick MUYAYA KATEMBWE, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christophe LUTUNDULA APALA Pen’APALA and the Minister of Finance, Nicolas Serge KAZADI KADIMA-NZUJI hosted a press briefing to present the main lines of the Sino-Congolese Global Strategic Partnership, following the visit to the Chinese State by the President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi.

The Minister of Communication and Media highlighted the signing of several memoranda between the sectoral ministers of the two countries, as well as the global and strategic partnership with the world power to relaunch Sino-Congolese cooperation. He also wanted to clarify the speculations that were made before the departure of the delegation tending to reduce the scope of this visit, “until the renegotiation around the contract”. For him, that was not the case.

For the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christophe Lutundula, the visit of the President of the Republic to China was a historic visit for the two countries, which have signed several legal instruments of cooperation and mutual expectations. He also highlighted two essential elements for the success of this partnership, namely having specific projects and local initiatives, from the dynamic private sector that are bold and create jobs.

For his part, the Minister of Finance, Nicolas Kazadi, recalled the objective of the mission to China, which was not to sign contracts, but rather to relaunch bilateral cooperation between the two countries. He underlined the importance of giving a new breath to this cooperation, because China is one of the main economic players on a global scale and the first investor in the DRC.

Overall, the Congolese president’s visit to China has been successful, and Sino-Congolese cooperation has been effectively revived. However, it is important to emphasize that local initiatives and a dynamic private sector are needed to succeed in this win-win partnership between Kinshasa and Beijing.
